The warm, welcoming ambiance is perfect for a relaxed meal with family or friends. From the minute you enter, you're greeted with the unmistakable aroma of spices filling the air. This smell, which hints at the richness of the food, is a precursor to the delightful journey your taste buds are about to embark on.

The menu at Five Chutneys is nothing short of impressive. It’s an exploration of various regional dishes, with each one carefully crafted to bring out the best in the ingredients. The star of the menu, as you might have guessed from the name, is the chutney. The restaurant offers a variety of chutneys that pair perfectly with their dishes, adding layers of flavor that elevate every bite. Whether it’s a tangy, spicy, or sweet chutney, you’ll find that it enhances the meal in a way that’s both refreshing and bold.

For starters, the vegetable samosas are a fan favorite, crisp and golden, stuffed with a flavorful mixture of spiced potatoes, peas, and carrots. Paired with a mint chutney, it's the perfect way to begin your meal. Another standout appetizer is the tandoori platter, which features a mix of meats marinated and cooked to perfection. The smoky flavor from the tandoor oven is an experience in itself, and dipping each piece into the accompanying chutneys adds a new dimension to the taste.

When it comes to the main courses, Five Chutneys doesn’t disappoint. The biryani here is legendary. Made with fragrant basmati rice and tender, marinated meat, each grain is perfectly cooked, absorbing the spices and flavors of the dish. Whether you go for chicken, mutton, or a vegetarian option, the biryani is a standout on the menu. Another popular choice is the butter chicken, a creamy and rich dish that pairs perfectly with naan or rice. The combination of sweet and savory flavors makes it irresistible.

The variety of chutneys that accompany the meals is what really sets Five Chutneys apart from other restaurants. These aren't just any regular condiments; each chutney is carefully crafted with fresh ingredients. From the classic tamarind chutney to the spicy green chili chutney, each one adds a unique touch to the meal. The chutneys are made in-house daily, ensuring that they are always fresh and bursting with flavor. For those who love a bit of heat, the mango chili chutney is a must-try. Its balance of sweet mango and fiery chili will leave your taste buds dancing.

One of the best things about Five Chutneys is the consistency of quality. Every dish is made with care, ensuring that no matter when you visit, you’ll have the same fantastic experience. The chefs use only the freshest ingredients, and the spices are always on point. The service is also exceptional, with friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations.

  • Definitely one of the best places to eat in Arusha! So make sure to pay a visit once in town. I had a dosa and samosas and they tasted just like in India The place is very cozy and clean. Fast service too and the owner is extremely welcoming. 100% recommended!

  • #1 restaurant in Arusha! The Indian food is homestyle and tastes like your mom made it. I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area who wants a great meal before/after visiting Kilimanjaro.

  • We went to their branch near Ngorongoro Crater and had a fantastic food specially served by the owner Mr. Jagat Vyas with personal warmth and lots of affection. After almost 8 days in Serangeti and Jungle saffari it was great to get authentic Indian food including Dosa, Pakoda / Bhajia, Vada Pav, Bhel etc. Really enjoyed it. I recomend all Indians to visit their either Arusha branch or Ngorongoro branch for sure. Good luck Jagatbhai.

  • I don’t usually write reviews, but the authentic home made taste so far away from home compelled me to write one. I came to five chutney for lunch - not knowing what to expect in a foreign country. Immediately I was blown away by their warm hospitality - I felt like I was sitting at my home with my family. Jagat Vyas and Roshni Vyas became my family away from home. Every dish I tried surpassed expectations! I came to trek Kilimanjaro and go on a safari - I couldn’t wait to go back to five chutneys every time I finished my trips. Food is a big part of an experience and finding this gem of a restaurant literally made my trip a 10 star adventure. I cannot wait to come back!!! Big thank you to Jagat and Roshni for all the advice, warmth and nutritious/healthy and amazingly tasty food.

  • Wow! So happy to find a vegetarian restaurant with a big selection on the menu in Arusha! Very good food and friendly staff. We came here two times during our stay in Arusha. I especially recommend the cheese paratha and the mango lassi. The entrance is a little hard to find, look inside the building.
